Ski holidays Waldkirchen – Historic climatic health resort at Goldener Steig!

Waldkirchen

In the far east of Bavaria lies the historic muncipality of Waldkirchen on an altitude of 573 m. It once used to be an important trading center at "Goldener Steig", the old trade route to Bohemia. The village used to be surrounded by an enclosing wall with ten towers and two town gates, part of which are preserved until now or have been rebuilt. Furthermore, the hometown of ski jumper Severin Freund boasts an historic market square with a waterspout fountain and legendary figures on the house fronts which enhance the town centre's cultural-historical flair. With 10,000 inhabitants, Waldkirchen is a real small town that offers everything a holidaymaker's heart desires: recreational sports in the public indoor pool, on horseback or in the climbing hall, but also idleness in cafés, restaurant or the spledid town park, as well as an extraordinary shopping experience in the traditional fashion house Garhammer.

To the West is Passau, city of three rivers, to the East Bavarian Forest National Park, and all around the resort an undulating forest landscape - the surroundings could not be any more beautiful. Nearby the resort centre is the local ski area Oberfrauenwald with several tow lifts and a toboggan run. In Waldkirchen, history, tradition, experience of nature and winter sports make up the perfect mix of a diverse holiday programme with a high recreational factor.

Bavarian Forest

The Bavarian Forest is central Europe's largest forest with 6,000 km² of wooded area. In 1970 the national park Bavarian Forest was created which, together with the Bohemian Forest, forms the largest coherent forestal nature reserve in central Europe with a total span of 900 km². Besides of the Alpine region, this region is also known for its affinity to winter sports. Families in particular will find exactly what they are looking for here. Those who prefer not to explore the Bavarian Forest on skis can also go on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride. The lovely castles and monasteries of the Bavarian Forest are definitively worth while a visit. Numerous restaurant and quaint huts, which offer both regional and international culinary highlights, should also be high on your list of to-do's. Bischofsmais – skiing fun and relaxation against a marvelous winter backdrop!
