Ski holidays Boží Dar – popular ski centre in the heart of the Ore Mountains!

Boží Dar

Boží Dar (engl. God's gift) lays in the Bohemian Ore Mountains, on a high plateau at 1,028 m altitude and therefore is the highest located town in the centre of Europe. At the German border, not far from the Klínovec (Keilberg, 1,244 m), the resort provides for the ideal place to be for a relaxing holiday in midst of the beautiful pine forests and with border-crossing ski safaris. The ski area of Boží Dar-Neklid is located only few metres from the resort centre, which means that with nearly all accommodations, doorstep skiing is possible. For more fun on the pistes, the ski area at the Fichtelberg at Oberwiesenthal and the Klínovec ski area are both bot far away.

Thanks to its "heavenly" location, this highest resort in the Czech Republic is also known as the home "Christkind", hence why the city is also known to many in the region as the "Christkindstadt". The "Christkind" is the traditional Christmas gift-bringer in many European countries including Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. The people of Boží Dar work on this tradition and have put up a Christkind letter box in which children and adults can put their Christmas wishes: In December, the letters are then sent from Boží Dar with a special Christmas stamp on them. Further, there is an activity path, the "Christkindweg", an approx. 13 km long hiking trail for children offering some interesting problems to solve and with a little rewards at the end. Besides this trail, the region around Boží Dar offers perfect conditions for an active holiday, with a large selection of cross-country and hiking trails, toboggan slopes, and of course ski areas.

Bohemian Ore Mountains

The Bohemian Ore Mountains lie on the Czech part of the mountain range, which borders with the German state of Saxony. The world-famous central mountain range in Saxony and Bohemia is especially know for it's unique landscape and rich culture and long tradition of ore mining and Christmas wood carvings, such as the candle arch bows and the little piper men. Visitors benefit from the vast woody hiking terrain and the magnificent cross-country skiing area, and of course Alpine skiing is possible here, too. On the border, around the highest peak Klínovec (1,244 m), as well as around the Fichtelberg (1,215 m) there are various attractive ski areas, whereby the local area of Boží Dar at the Neklid is most important winter sports centre in this region.
