Ski holidays Rußbach – the Salzburg village in Tennengau!

Rußbach

The holiday village of Rußbach is located in the picturesque Tennengau, around 60 km south of the state capital of Salzburg. The tranquil village is wonderfully situated between the mighty Dachstein massif and the shimmering Wolfgangsee lake, and offers diverse activities and possibilities for day trips out to enjoy nature in the Salzkammergut area. Among other things, Rußbach is well known for its "Schneckenwand", a place where fossils can be found. Some examples of these fossils are exhibited in the fossil gallery in the local library and are well worth seeing. The well in the village square was built with these petrified fossils. This central square, together with the rustic farm houses and their wooden balconies give the cosy village an exceedingly charming, private character.

In Rußbach guests experience traditional village life in a relaxing, calm environment and can enjoy all the amenities that one could wish for on a fulfilling holiday. For example, free Wi-Fi is available to use throughout the whole village.

The splendid natural landscape of the Salzkammergut area stretches out all around Rußbach. This cultural and natural region, known as the "landscape garden", is ideal for snow shoe and winter hikes, cross-country tours or tobogganing trips. A big plus for winter sports fans is the proximity to the pistes. The access point to the ski region of "Dachstein West" lies practically on your doorstep. It only takes a few steps to go from the centre of the village to the lift's valley station.

Dachstein Salzkammergut

The inner Salzkammergut is a historical and scenic cultural area in the foothills of the Northern Alps, stretching from around the Dachstein massif from Bad Ischl in the North to Bad Mitterndorf in the East. Hence, the entire Salzkammergut lies in the federal states of Upper Austria, Styria and Salzburg, whereas Dachstein lies mainly in Upper Austria.

The Dachstein massif is rich in salt, attributing the region an important role as far back as the 14th century. On top of that, some important archaeological findings were made. The unique environment together with the historically important cultural landscape made the area become a UNESCO World Natural and World Cultural Heritage site in 1997. Today, the salt mines and the panorama of the World Natural Heritage region are great tourist attractions, just like the diverse winter sports offers at the Dachstein massif.
